Summary, Conclusions and Recommendations
It is now more then 20 years since ISSPD was founded. With a long history behind us and approaching new development in the field of personality disorders, ISSPD is facing new tasks and expectations vis-à-vis the membership of the Society. Consequently, it is high time to attend to our members’ experiences and expectations. To get a better understanding of who our members are and how our Society is working, I proposed and outlined a Membership Survey to inquire about our members’ expectations and how they perceive the advantages and shortcomings, and the strengths and fault of ISSPD. The Membership Survey was sent out via email and at deadline 98 people had responded, a 28.4 % response rate from ISSPD’s Membership. In the following report: ISSPD Membership Survey 2009. Summary, Conclusions and Recommendations, the results are outlined. Several areas of organizational functioning are evaluated and the recommendations indicate areas where change can be implemented. As a first step the report was discussed at the ISSPD Board meeting in New York on August 22, 2009. As we are implementing a process of membership based strategic planning for improving our Society, I would very much appreciate additional comments and suggestions from both members and affiliated friends of ISSPD as how to improve the organizational functioning of ISSPD to meet the expectations and support the Membership.
